Aye! Somehow I don't think you're alone! ;)

No worries! Heck yes, so many options with these cameras, swings and roundabouts I guess, always fun to mix it up and play with the settings when the pressure isn't on! Just to clarify, I rarely change the bank at all since this setting just works for all sorts, so it doesn't slow you down on the job. Using the af-on button is great for jumping from focus tracking to the 'focus and recompose' type shots. As my thumb is right by the af-on on the body or the grip I also never need to touch the C, S, M button either, so for me, it's a good bit quicker. Looking forward to your next instalments!

Great article, awesome photos. You're going to love the 70-200, it's an amazing lens. I went cold when I bought mine but every time I shoot with it, it's worthwhile. Looks like you'll do it a lot more justice than me man! just focus on someones jumping, lock to manual focus & shoot until you move & just re-focus, lock on MF & shoot again... Here's a trick for Nikon users - I use on the D300, I think it also works on the D200. I bang these settings in a custom bank called 'action' - Leave focus mode on 'C' - Disable focus from the shutter button (focus option a6?) Now the camera only focuses when you press the af-on button. Holding af-on will track action but if you want to lock focus, just leave the af-on button alone! A half-press will now meter but not refocus. Great for switching from action to portraits or locking on a jump. Hope that tip helps someone else, was a godsend for me!

Lovin' the way the crew are arranged like an Alp!

Track name is in the description. It's a race only venue though so please don't try to find it! ;) 2009 round was last weekend so if you want to ride it, you'll need to be on the ball to get an entry for the 2010 round! It's a good 'un.

I'm clever enough to do humour. And to do capitals and punctuation. F*ck yeah!

Yup, I did crash! Well done. Have a chocky biccy. Yes, I did set up the shot - camera was set to manual focus, manual exposure, flash set to manual power and zoom. Lighting was off camera flash - SB-26 on tripod, high and to camera right, firing in front of rider at somewhere about45 degrees triggered optically via on-camera SB-28. Check the shadows, if that's natural lighting, I stayed upright and rode it out! Also, Alex didn't 'just stand and take the photo' - he stood bang in the right spot and nailed the timing!
